Story: What's Past Is Prologue

Series: Star Trek: Discovery
Year: 2018
So after last week's major reveal that Lorca is, in fact, from the Mirror Universe, this week we get to see him unleashed. I should also note that it seems I misinterpreted last week's episode in which I thought that the Stamets had swapped places...turns out that was NOT the case. The main focus of the episode is, as you'd expect, Lorca...and how Burnham and Georgiou must deal with him on the Charon, while the Discovery crew must face that fact and rally together to figure out a way to get Burnham and head back to their own universe.
While Georgiou and Burnham having a top notch action fight sequence in the Throne Room against Lorca and Landry was certainly an exciting sequence, for me the biggest selling point of this installment was Saru assuming command of the Discovery. From the moment he learns of Lorca's deception, he gains some air of confidence in his own command abilities, and it just really made me excited for this show to be Captained by him if I am honest. When it seems the chances of Stamets and Tilly's plan of destroying the Charon, saving Burnham and returning to their own universe aren't likely to all pan out...he gives a fantastic speech, and it feels like a very Star Trek speech. And he has this great moment of subtle realization when the crew responds with "aye Captain." It is real now...and once he is in that Captain's chair he no longer has any doubts of his own command ability. It was a beautiful way to realize this arc that has been quite nice, if a little short shafted throughout the season.
But there is this epic fight I mentioned. It really is like a top tier sci-fi/action movie in that scene. And it was quite the surprise to see Lorca actually get killed. I expected he could remain the baddie for the remainder of the year, but he is not only stabbed through the gut by Georgiou, but he is then shoved into the Charon's mycelium reactor. Then the Discovery manages to torpedo that reactor...exploding the Charon and creating a mycelium wave that they ride, hoping that Stamets can utilize the spores and get them back home. They also manage to beam Burnham (who snatches Georgiou as well) aboard. Stamets almost gets lost in the network, but luckily with some kind of guiding light from Hugh...he manages to pull it off. They have made it home it seems, but 9 months late...and the it seems the Klingon War is nearly lost. Ruh-roh.
One of the things I really enjoyed about this episode is that while the last couple of weeks confirmed fan theories held by myself and others, this week actually ended that trend. There were a few things I still thought might be revealed, like maybe Landry had been a Mirror counterpart as well, but it turns out that she never was. She was just an unlikable impulsive idiot from the Prime Universe! Go figure! I also didn't think they would wrap up the Mirror stuff and end Lorca as we know it (could still possibly return in some form, who knows) so soon. And now they have just two episodes to hopefully wrap it all up. I know the show has been renewed for a Second year, but they've talked about moving into new directions, and more focus on exploration in the next year, and I hope they stick to that...because I'm not sure I really want to watch another Trek trying to drag out a war plotline. DS9 nailed it, but Enterprise kinda made it dull. I want to see a new use of exploration Trek in the modern landscape. So here is hoping that they can wrap up the Klingon War in exciting fashion.
All my theories are currently either confirmed or shot...I have no idea where it can go next. And that is pretty exciting with two episodes left.
