The Civil War

Story: Divided We Stand

Series: Star Trek Continues

Kirk and McCoy are seemingly transported back into the American Civil War, but are actually being attacked by little nano-bots that project a shared dreamlike world. So while they are trying to figure out how they ended up in the Civil War and are forced to find a way to survive it...the crew of the Enterprise must figure out a way to save them from the nano-bot things before they kill their Captain and Doctor.
The cast is getting better with each episode. This is the first time Chuck Huber's Dr. McCoy truly sold me. I think he finally got the voice and temperament to a place that just felt very much like the good Doctor.  I also felt it was another very TOS kind of show, in a different kind of way than they have done in it's previous four episodes. Mignogna gives another great performance as Kirk, being both the wise man of the future to a group of Civil War soldiers, trying to inspire hope for a better world...and then getting utterly defeated when things take a turn for the worse. It is a great performance from Mignogna as a Kirk, who gets genuinely hurt in the war and has to face the consequences that his life will never be the same. There are also good performances from the Civil War guest stars, who do a pretty solid job of making you feel for their plight. And as a total fan aside...pretty neat to see Dr. M'Benga brought back into the fold!

This was also a better effort than their last one, "The White Iris" which had a lot going for it, but just felt like it was missing something. But this episode really just worked for me, it was firing on all cylinders. It created a unique story, made it feel very TOS, but also didn't feel the need to rely on references or callbacks to any previous Trek story.  Much like "Lolani" this is a truly original story that feels very much like the kind of thing TOS might've done. I must say I never thought a fan series would get me so excited for it's next episode, but this show continually keeps me wanting more.
