Parasitic Attraction

Story: Cupid’s Errant Arrow

When the Cerritos is on a joint mission with the Vancouver, it gives Boimler a chance to reunite with his girlfriend. Mariner is suspicious that anyone could like Boimler so she believes she must not be human and must be something sinister. It’s about as broad and tedious as it sounds. Ultimately when Mariner finds evidence of a parasite being involved, she believes the parasite is somehow making Boimler’s girlfriend like him. Turns out he has the parasite and it makes him far more attractive to others (which I suppose is why Mariner is so obsessed with saving him).
Tendi and Rutherford are having their own adventure trying to earn some fancy tech device. I guess they are racing each other, then it turns out they are tricked into transfer to the Vancouver to trade places with a guy who doesn’t like the pressure of the more proper ship...he wants to be on the pointless Cerritos where nothing matters. Ugh.

The only characters on this show I remotely buy as even sort of close to real Starfleet are Tendi (as the wide eyed new recruit) and Rutherford (as an enthusiastic underling who enjoys the grunt work that fit into the Trek world). Sadly the focus tends to be on Boimler (who, like Rutherford, is enthusiastic about the grunt work but is much more aggravating and doesn’t feel like a real person) and Mariner (who is just constantly grating and feels completely unfit for Starfleet).

It just seems like they’re focusing on the wrong two characters as leads.
