Vadic

Story: Disengage
Written By: Christopher Monfette & Sean Tretta
Series: Star Trek: Picard
Year: 2023

Picard and Riker are trapped with this Jack Crusher character and a frozen Beverly.  They are rescued by a reluctant Shaw and beamed aboard, and then we find that our overpowered enemy is Vadic...some lady who wants Jack Crusher because he is an interplanetary criminal.  This is confirmed by all accounts, he seems to be a conman with various aliases and crimes to each name. But Picard is still reluctant to just give him up, while Shaw is a coward who is ready to hand him over quickly in the hopes of being safe. Seven is relieved of duty because of her actions with Picard, but she just keeps working anyhow and Shaw is useless to do anything about it.  Eventually Picard is convinced to save Jack when Riker wakes the weakened Beverly up, and she silently confirms what Riker has been hinting at the entire episode: Jack is somehow Picard's son.  How these two old fogeys had a kid AFTER Nemesis is beyond me.
Meanwhile, conspiracy nut Raffi is trying to continue her investigations after the terrorist attack, as she feels that the story being fed to Starfleet is bogus because jet fuel can't melt steel beams or something. She goes after the Ferengi that fed Starfleet the story that gave them a lead hoping to find the truth, but he forces her to take drugs to prove she isn't a spy, and after she takes the drugs like the addict she is he threatens to kill her anyway.  Luckily her mysterious handler that told her to fucking just stop for once in her life shows up and decapitates everyone.  And it is Worf!  Yay Worf is back! And he is doing what Star Trek is best at: murder!  The writers totally get Star Trek!

While I am not a huge fan of the endless violence of modern Trek, I didn't hate this episode.  I didn't really like it either, but I would say I felt neutral about it.

NEXT TIME: Who is Vadic?
