Young Guinan

Story: Watcher
Written By: Juliana James & Jane Maggs
Series: Star Trek: Picard
Year: 2022

Seven and Raffi on the hunt for Rios, who is currently detained by ICE and about to be deported.  Picard and Jurati need to find the location of the "Watcher" and Jurati seems to stumble upon the date of the crisis as well, which is three days from now.  Picard heads for the location and finds himself on Forward street in front of Guinan's bar. Inside he meets a younger Guinan who does not yet know Picard and has become jaded by humanity and is planning to ditch the planet.  This is not to be confused with the TNG story in which Picard travelled back in time and met a younger Guinan in an even earlier time period.  In case you are keeping track at home: this show has no idea what it is doing.
It is bad enough that they had Guinan in the future running a bar on "Forward Street" with the number of the address being 10. Ten Forward on the Enterprise wasn't named after a street, it was the location on the ship! It was on the Forward section of the saucer! But this is a show written by dummies. So not only did She go on to open up a bar on Earth in the future after the Enterprise that had the same address as her Enterprise Bar, but apparently she ran that bar before that too. Also she met Picard in the past with Mark Twain, but now she is even younger than that even though more than a century has passed and she has no recollection of that prior meeting.  Again, writers are dummies.

Okay, so the continuity is a total mess. But at least the episode is also boring and not very interesting, and barely moves the story along. The most "exciting" element is Raffi and Seven stealing a police car and racing through the streets, and it is dull...and barely gets them anywhere. In fact when the writers decided that no longer served a purpose they just beamed them out of it.  And they still haven't gotten to Rios, because this episode is about inching a story a long with filler rather than anything substantial.  Another story that inches along is Jurati and her mix up with the Borg Queen. I assume this leads her to some dark path or something because that is the Kurtzman Trek way.

Guinan is not really the Watcher, but she does lead Picard to the Watcher, and it is a human version of Laris. What a twist. Also Q is sitting outside somewhere acting like a crazy man, muttering about misery or something, then snaps his fingers, some random lady laughs, and he looks concerned. I dunno what the fuck is going on, but also I don't think I am remotely on the edge of my seat to find out. What a mess.

NEXT TIME: Oh Good...another Soong
