I was very impressed with the first episode of the animated show. It took itself rather seriously, and unlike the third season of TOS, it took itself seriously and didn’t LOOK ridiculous.
Filmation didn’t have the best animation in the world. It is really cheap, and the music isn’t too hot…but the show somehow manages to find a strength in the midst of its bad production values. I’d say having the original cast and some real writers from the first two seasons really helped.
This first one has a cool, very Star Trek concept, and while the animation is stiff, the background art for this one is really fun to look at. Just look at that art? Isn't creative and fun? Oh 70s cartoons...stiff and cheap...but creative as hell in some ways.
NEXT TIME: Young Spock
