Story: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Written By: Steve Meerson & Peter Krikes and Harve Bennett & Nicholas Meyer
Series: The Original Cast Films
Year: 1986
What is not to love about the crew of the Enter…The Bounty…going back in time to save humpback whales in order to answer a probe and save the Earth from total destruction? I mean it is one of the most fun stories in the franchise. Totally ridiculous yet somehow it makes sense in a weird kind of way.
A more lighthearted tone was taken in this film, which is mostly why it works. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it doesn’t ever get to a point where your suspension of disbelief gets too stressed. The comedy is intentional, your laughing with the creators, not at them.
Scotty at the Glass Factory is ALWAYS hilarious to me (“hello computer…”) In the end it is classic Star Trek, one of the shining gems of the whole franchise.
