The Death of the Enterprise

Story: Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
Written By: Harve Bennett
Series: The Original Cast Films
Year: 1984

"The Search for Spock" is the most underrated Trek film. It’s often said that the even numbered Trek films are good and the odd numbered ones are bad. I don’t think its true enough to be the rule.
Search for Spock has several great scenes, sequences, and character moments that make it really good and fun.
1) Stealing the Enterprise – this is one of the best sequences is in all of Trek. Scotty, Sulu, and Uhura all get their moment to shine and Kirk and McCoy are strong throughout. This sequence is so much fun.
2) McCoy/Spock – DeForest Kelley gives a great performance with Spock’s katra in his head, particularly the barroom scene.
3) The Death of David – Kirk finally met his son in the previous film, and now the Klingon’s have murdered him. Shatner’s performance reacting to the news of David’s death is great.
4) Captain Kruge – Christopher Lloyd is great as the Klingon antagonist.
5) Destroying the Enterprise – The entire build up and pay off to the Enterprise exploding is terrific.
6) Genesis - I think almost everything on the Genesis planet, from David and Savvak first arriving there, to finding Spock aging fast with the planet, to the final battle Kruge as the planet destroys itself.
7) The climax on Vulcan – I think the Vulcan sequence is rather interesting.
I think that’s enough reasons to prove that this film is definitely better than it gets credit for. I love Search for Spock, great film.
