Story: The Counter-Clock Incident
Written By: John Culver
Series: Star Trek: The Animated Series
Year: 1974
The last episode of TAS has this plot: Trek Babies. The plot is pretty much as it sounds…the crew is slowly reverted back to little kids. This plot would later serve THE MUPPET BABIES really well.
The funniest thing is it isn’t that bad for a lame plot device (TNG’s “Rascals” is WAY worse). We also meet the first Captain of the Enterprise, Captain Robert April.
So the animated series comes to an end here. I don’t many were thinking of it as the end, and who knows what the mentality of the writers working on TAS really was, but I think the last line of the episode sort of sums up the Animated Series completely “it gave all of us a second chance at life”…and so it did. The movies would give it them the third.
