Story: Where No One Has Gone Before
Written By: Diane Duane and Michael Reaves
Series: Star Trek: The Next Generation
Year: 1987
This episode is actually not too bad. It is unique, which can not be said for the previous two episodes, and it is interesting, which can’t be said for anything preceding it so far. Warp Drive tests on the Enterprise take them to the furthest reaches of the Galaxy, and people begin to see hallucinations.
This story also introduced the character known as “The Traveler”. He only had two more appearance scattered throughout the series after this initial appearance but he played an important role in the arc of Wesley Crusher, whether you agree with that arc or not is up to interpretation. For this one, by the end of this episode, Wesley is made Acting Ensign.
I think the story is well written and executed. I definitely recommend this one from the first season, it started to really show the potential of this show. Should have aired second at least.
