This is a great episode. The Enterprise is sent to pick up John Gill from this planet he was meant to be only a cultural observer. Unfortunately when Kirk and Spock beam down to the planet, they see that the culture has changed and now resembles Nazi Germany.
The prime directive issue actually makes for a good topic once and while (really it was TNG that wore the idea out). John Gill broke the prime directive, and as a result the entire culture of a planet was disrupted. He tried to get the efficiency of Nazi Germany, without the real problems of the state…but he failed.
Also it is kind of weird and oddly fun to see our heroes in Nazi uniforms.
