Story: The Ultimate Computer
Written By: D.C. Fontana
Series: Star Trek: The Original Series
Year: 1968
This is an episode about Kirk’s fears about being replaced by a computer. It is an interesting idea, but it can be a bit dull. There is also a bit of dialogue that goes in circles. I think Kirk and McCoy chatting about whether or not Kirk likes the idea of being replaced by a computer could have been 2 minutes shorter, but they keep circling the subject before finally getting to the point. It just felt like the writer needing to kill time…got 50 minutes to fill.
There is also too many computer/machines gone mad stories in this series.
It is a decent episode, but nothing special.
NEXT TIME: And to the Republic
