Story: A Taste of Armageddon
Written By: Robert Hamner and Gene L. Coon
Series: Star Trek: The Original Series
Year: 1967
This is an interesting concept. Two planets long at war found a way to save their civilizations, without stopping the war. They use computers to determine where the bombs would have hit, and how many would die. When the simulation ends, people are designated dead, and willingly go to the disintegrator to die. An orderly war.
Of course Kirk and Co. find the whole idea distasteful, and rightly so. Neither planet came up with the solution to just STOP FIGHTING? Add onto that the Enterprise has been designated destroyed, and that the whole crew must step into the disintegrator…Kirk’s gotta do some fighting.
At times this episode can be a bit dull or flat, but all in all I’d say its concept and execution are strong.
