Story: The Menagerie, Part I
Written By: Gene Roddenberry
Series: Star Trek: The Original Series
Year: 1967
The first part of the only 2-part story in the original series is pretty strong. In fact both parts are rather strong. Spock performs an act of mutiny against Captain Kirk. He does so for some unknown reason for his former Captain of the enterprise, Christopher Pike. Pike is in the now classic state of being totally mutilated by radiation, and forced into a wheelchair, only able to speak in beeps for Yes and No.
The first part has more original story than the second part, but I think Roddenberry did a good job of creating a story that makes sense, especially considering the whole idea was a way to save money and make 2 cheap episodes.
