Story: The Galileo Seven
Written By: Oliver Crawford and S. Bar-David
Series: Star Trek: The Original Series
Year: 1967
This episode has a nice duel story going. The basic story is this: while investigating a quasar a shuttlecraft crash lands on a planet. In the B-Story Kirk is forced to try and find his crewmembers before the clock runs out (gotta get some medicine to some plague victims, a classic Star Trek motif). In the more prominent and important A-Story we still Spock dealing with command.
Spock uses logic as his command tool, unfortunately this rubs some crew members the wrong way. Spock learns a lot about being in command this episode, a decent character development. The performances are good from all in the crashed shuttle, decent from the B-story but the A-story is pretty strong all around.
The duel story would become a prominent feature when TNG comes around.
NEXT TIME: Trial of James Kirk
