Star Trek: The Original Series Season 1 Recap

The first season of Star Trek is great, quite possibly a contender for on of the best seasons in all of Trek. Season one is fairly consistent from beginning to end.  Even those rocky first few stories shot hold up pretty well. The second season may have "A Piece of the Action", "The Doomsday Machine", and even "The Trouble with Tribbles"…but it also has a few clunkers in there is well. This first season does not have that problem. Even the bad episodes in this season are fun.

Without this all important season of course there would be no second season with fantastic episodes, or any great films…or the spin offs.  This has plenty to build on from, and it is kind of amazing how quickly the show fell into it's groove.  When you start a show off with such a far out concept, as this show truly had, it often takes a bit of time to get into the swing of things.  This series really found it's sense of pace and style and adventure about a few episodes in.  By "The Balance of Terror", Star Trek had arrived in full.

Sure a lot of things about Spock, The Vulcans, the Federation are still left to be explored and a lot more world building took place in the second season...you could even argue that the characters aren't really fully developed yet (really the series only really developed the Great Trio).  Maybe the Original series didn't really deal with character and story arcs...but there are so many great ideas explored here, and this season is a personal favorite of mine.
