Story: Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang
Written By: Ira Steven Behr & Hans Beimler
Series: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Year: 1999
DS9 ruled at holodeck episodes. TNG had “The Big Goodbye” in its first season, and then most of their holodeck tales were pretty much variations on a theme: some space anomaly causes a malfunction that makes the holodeck act wrong. There were other solid ones like “Elementary, Dear Data” but they were few and far between.
So suddenly Vic’s is hit with a Jack in the Box. Essentially it is built into the program randomly to make the program remain interesting and not become stale. But it brings mobsters in, taking over the casino and firing Vic. In order to save Vic and the program they all love, they gotta get rid of Frankie Eyes.
It becomes a really fun to watch caper, clearly based on things like Oceans 11. The cast is tremendous, they all look great in their costumes and do well performing their tasks to steal money from the casino. It is a lot of fun to watch, so sit back and enjoy.
There is even a bit of perspective on how Vic’s doesn’t really represent Vegas 1962, as black people were not welcome there. It is nice that they made sure to point it out, because no one should forget. This one is a winner.
