Kahless

Story: Rightful Heir
Written By: Ronald D. Moore
Series: Star Trek: The Next Generation
Year: 1993

Worf is trying to study and meditate in a Klingon monastery and he is visited by Kahless, the founder of Klingon civilization as we know it, and then it turns out it is not a vision. So now it is an episode to determine whether or not this guy is the real deal returning as once foreseen or if he is some kind of an imposter.
Many signs seem to point to the unlikely, that he truly is Kahless. In the end it turns out he is a clone, filled with memories not unlike the real Kahless, but even he did not know he was a clone. It is decided, against what Gowron would want, that he shall become a figurehead with no power, he will play Emperor, and Gowron will remain the real power.

I like this episode, but I don’t love it. I think it is rather symbolic of TNG at this point though. Stories are beginning to run thin. This problem is much more present in the next season, this one still has some classics, but the Klingon storylines are just dried up. In fact they don’t really feel useful again until Season 4 of DS9.

NEXT TIME: Two Many Rikers!
