Story: Inheritance
Written By: Dan Koeppel and Rene Echevarria
Series: Star Trek: The Next Generation
Year: 1993
We meet a woman who was once married to Data’s creator, Dr. Noonien Soong. In a way she is Data’s mother. Of all the “Data’s Family” series of episodes…this is one of the least interesting. I mean it isn’t terrible, but it doesn’t really tell us much about Data(beyond that there were possibly more prototypes before even Lore) or further his quest to be human.
It turns out that she is actually an android herself, believing herself to be the real Dr. Tainer. That sort of raises more questions than it answers. Does she age? If they don’t tell her don’t you think it will cause issues when she NEVER DIES?
I just think it had more kinks to work out, and as a result it is mediocre.
