Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season 6 Recap

Season 6 is still generally good; it just has a few more weak plotlines and episodes. When it is good, it can be some of the series strongest episodes, like “Tapestry” or “Chain of Command”. But this season also gave us a few more dull and forgettable episodes, and things like “Rascals”.

I won’t say that this particular season is a bad one; I just think that unlike seasons 3 through 5, the well is beginning to run dry. For this kind of series and for these particular characters. The exploring the universe thing has been done now…3 years of the original series, 22 animated episodes, 6 films and now 6 seasons of TNG…the story ideas are just not as plentiful as they once were.

Even the finale shows where we are. “Descent” is good fun, but the depth and quality that were “The Best of Both Worlds” and “Redemption” are long gone.

Like I said, when they were good episodes this season they could be some of the best in all of Trek, but it is just clear that we are nearing the end. Good thing there was only one more season after this.
