Story: Data’s Day
Written By: Harold Apter and Ronald D. Moore
Series: Star Trek: The Next Generation
Year: 1991
There is something fantastic about an episode that takes a different approach like this. Data is keeping a log for the man who once tried to have him disassembled (See: Measure of a Man) in order for him to understand Data better.
The episode follows Data through his everyday duties, learning to dance with Crusher, trying to help with Chief O’Brien’s wedding to Keiko, and dealing with a Vulcan Ambassador and Romulan threat. The neat thing is we only get portions of the Romulan bit. Its like we get an outsiders view. And the Enterprise loses in the end, that is pretty strange and neat.
I think this is a classic TNG episode, a great incite into Data and we get a little bit more about our Chief O’Brien, who marries Keiko by the end of the episode. She is introduced here and would go on to play a recurring role in both this and DS9.
NEXT TIME: Captain Benjamin Maxwell
