Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season 3 Recap

A whole new look started this season. The lighting is a hell of a lot better. It’s really odd, I’m of the crowd that likes shadows and darkness and all that good stuff in my cinema, but for some reason the subdued and dark colors of the first two seasons made this show look cheap. Suddenly they brighten everything up…and I think it looks better go figure….

Add onto the lighting the much easier on the eyes new Uniforms…that don’t showcase how non-buff our cast really is…and we get a show that is just easier to watch. Roddenberry’s skin-tight space pajamas were thrown out, and thank whatever diety you may pray to.

While the look and style of the third season is a definite improvement, the STORIES are a marked improvement on the past two seasons. Now season 2 was WAY better than that first season, but somehow this season just is The Next Generation. Our characters our discovered, our plots tighter, the writing superior, and the epic shadow of Kirk and Spock is suddenly no longer as visible. This cast is Star Trek now. The visual effects look better in this season. Hell even the opening credits look better from here on out.

I loved the little character moments, and the arcs that start to really build hear. It is terrific that this show really managed to get so consistently good week to week this time around, and people start to think of Worf and Data and Riker and Picard when they think of Star Trek from here on out. They still do, even if the original cast outshines them a bit, this cast definitely made their mark, and outside the Trekker Fanbase, no other cast would really make that impact on the mainstream again. This season made that happen.

Then that cliffhanger at the end! I mean come on, how do you not get excited for next year with an ending like that?
