Story: Bar Association
Written By: Barbara Lee, Jenifer A. Lee, Robert Hewitt Wolfe and Ira Steven Behr
Series: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Year: 1996
After a pay cut, Quark’s employees organize a union (led by Rom) and go on strike. While a Ferengi comedy episode on the surface, it is a drama about labor disputes and family issues, and a damn good one at that. It is a solid episode, which gives Rom lots of room to grow, especially in the end, when he quits the bar and joins the Bajoran workforce as a night shift engineer.
The smaller story involves Worf’s uncomfortable-ness with being on the station, which eventually leads to him making the decision to move onto the Defiant. I also liked in this little story Worf’s growing relationship with Dax. It is clear on their first meeting that something was going to come from it, but now its becoming clear that at least Dax has a thing for Worf.
